Prosecutors will not file charges against the couple who took their 19-year-old daughter to Texas after she converted to the LDS Church. The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office said the decision was "based on information available at this time."
Last month, Daniel and Gloria Alonso flew from Texas to Utah after learning their daughter, Danielle, converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Investigators describe Daniel Alonso grabbing his daughter, pulling her outside her apartment and forcing her into the back seat of a car. The family then drove to Rockport, Texas.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office suspected the parents had kidnapped their daughter, but the Alonso family appeared at their Texas home a few days later and issued a statement denying there was any kidnapping. Danielle also issued a statement referring to the incident as a misunderstanding.
