Legal Briefs: Sen. Reid "rips" Mormon Church, LDS Churches vandalized, Brook Wilberger

  • Mormon Senator Harry Reid calls the LDS Church's involvement in California's Prop 8; "a waste of Church resources and good will", "the resources that went into the Proposition 8 effort could have been put to better use", the Church should be "focused on other things", "it was harmful for the Church to focus on such a divisive issue." Salt Lake Tribune. I think we should listen to Reid because if anybody knows how not to waste 'resources' and 'good will' it's the Democratic leaders of this Country.

  1. Yet one more great reason to vote Sen. Reid out of office!

  2. This is very dangerous ground for the Senator. It is clear from the quote where his loyalties stand.

  3. I think he's welcome to his views, and there is little chance of any political or ecclesiastical repercussions. I don't like a lot about the Prop. 8 campaign, particularly the pure majority threshold under current California voter referendum law.

I do, however, think Senator Reid's comments are rather convenient. I don't recall him weighing in on the subject so publicly during the campaign. And the fact that he made these comments to a gay-rights group seems like standard political pandering to constituencies. That's business as usual for politicians, not "dangerous ground."

  4. Senator Harry Reid is entitled to his own opinion but who is he to tell members of the Church how to spend their own money and what political issues they should be involved in?
